Lincolnland Club and District Leaders,
This edition of "Around Lincolnland" features the Exchange Club of Mattoon. For more information on the club, please contact Mattoon Newsletter Editor Keith Lynch at kblynch@consolidated.net.
The Exchange Club of Mattoon was chartered on March 27th, 1976, with thirty-five members. Thirty-four years later, the club has sixty-three members, with five charter members still active.
Mattoon holds three major fundraisers. The club has run the Exchange Youth Golf Tournament for the past thirty-two years, and each fall Mattoon holds the Pulled Pork Supper and Silent Auction. In addition, the club runs an NFL Football Pool in which $10 pool sheets are sold throughout the community and monetary prizes are awarded each week based on high / low team scores.
As a result of their fundraising events last year, Mattoon disbursed over $10,000 back to the community. In addition to providing two $500 Youth Scholarships, the club financially supports local organizations such as the Mattoon Community Food Center, Adopt a Family, CASA, Lincoln Sargent Foundation, and Big Brothers / Big Sisters. Club members also ring bells for the Salvation Army and contribute over 1500 hours of volunteer labor for the Mattoon Community Food Center.
Mattoon won the 2009 National Exchange Club Award for Best Website, which you can visit at www.mattoonexchange.org. Annual club social events include the Megeff Exchange Pool Tournament and the Exchange Golf Trip to Millington, Tennessee. Phil Wilson successfully defended his pool tournament championship on February 13th, and last year's golf trip featured an energetic group of twelve golfers who played a total of 1,350 holes in four days.
Thanks for all you do in the Spirit of Exchange.
