Lincolnland Club and District Leaders,
The Lincolnland District Convention is fast approaching! Our 84th Annual Convention will be held June 10th - 13th at the Naperville Holiday Inn Select. The Convention Planning Committee urges attendees to make your hotel reservations as soon as possible. There will be a triathlon event in Naperville that weekend, and many participants will stay at the hotel. Naperville Holiday Inn Select information and a convention registration form are attached to this e-mail. Early convention registration (at a reduced price) continues through May 15th. Come join the fun in Naperville on June 10th - 13th!
The Lincolnland Board of Directors met on May 1st at the Naperville Holiday Inn Select to review successes and improvement opportunities around our district as well as to tour the hotel. For April our membership was down by 24 Exchangites, including 18 from the closing of Plainfield. On the other hand, club building in Antioch - Lindenhurst - Lake Villa (ALL) is going well, and we're approaching a permanent organization meeting (POM) perhaps in May or June. Region 3 Vice President Katie Smith traveled from Owatonna, Minnesota, to update our board on National issues. We followed the board discussion with a Lincolnland Foundation for Youth meeting and reviewed fundraising plans. The next District and Youth Foundation Board Meetings will be held on the Friday morning of our convention.
Thanks go to President-Elect Kathy Johnson (and Joe, her dedicated driver and equipment carrier) for conducting Club Officer Training Sessions around Lincolnland during April. Also, thanks go to VFR Lou Molitor, who led the session for Divisions 1 and 2. In addition, we thank all the Exchangites who attended the meetings, and Kathy will lead a make-up / follow-up session on the Saturday afternoon of our convention.
Congratulations go to Aledo, Belleville, Champaign, Bolingbrook, and Greater Kendall County for earning the National Service Award (NSA)! These clubs now join Mattoon, Quad Cities, Quincy, Naperville, and Beardstown as 2009 - 2010 NSA recipients in Lincolnland. As a reminder, keep reporting your club's activities and programs of service to National Exchange at www.nationalexchangeclub.org, and receive the award that your members have earned.

And finally, I'd like to thank the Bloomington, Charleston, and Bolingbrook Clubs for their hospitality during my recent visits. Bloomington had a very interesting program on lawn care and gardening on April 21st, Charleston hosted enthusiastic bicyclists for their 4th Annual Tour de Exchange on April 24th, and Bolingbrook honored their Police Officer of the Year and Book of Golden Deeds recipients on April 28th. I appreciated the opportunity to visit with the Exchangites from all three clubs, and I certainly enjoyed the stories and camaraderie we shared. A good time was had by all.
Thanks for all you do in the Spirit of Exchange.
